Terms of use
To participate in the reading campaign, Sommerles.no, parents or guardians must read and approve this agreement. This is an agreement with the library that your user is associated with in Sommerles. Library association is chosen during registration. This agreement informs you about your rights, how we store your personal information, and what we store on your account.
If you do not agree to this agreement, you cannot take part in Sommerles. If you have any questions about this agreement, please contact us.
Content moderation
We do not accept offensive or inappropriate content from the users of Sommerles. All content will be approved by administrators. If comments or books are rejected, you have the option to change or delete the book or comment.
In case of suspected cheating, the user may receive a warning and risk being banned from participating in Sommerles. Only books that have been read during the period from 1st of June to the 31st of August are accepted.
We recommend that you use an anonymous username that is not similar to your proper name. If you do not choose to have a hidden profile. your username will be visible to other users. You can always change your username on the "Edit Profile" page.
Book data on Sommerles is provided by Biblioteksentralen. This database is updated daily and is automatically filtered and customised for Sommerles. However, inappropriate content may still appear.
Privacy policy
Terms used:- Administrator is a librarian or employee of a participating library or county library.
- Campaign period is the time frame from the 1st of June to the 31st of August.
What personal information do we store?
We need personal information to identify you, hand out prizes, analyse the difficulty of the campaign, keep track of statistics, and manage your personal reading campaign.
To take part in Sommerles, you should fill in the following personal information: Username, parent/guardian's email, name, the library you are a member of, library card number, gender, grade and hashed password (hash algorithm - An encryption method so that no one can access your password).
Other information that is stored on your account is: What books you have read, the number of pages and what you think of the book, messages between you and the administrators, your friends, questionnaire responses, points/levels, digital trophies obtained, prizes collected at the library, challenge answers/game results, chapters read in the Sommerles story, account settings (e.g. "Hide Profile" choice, research choices, language choices, and similar) and the timestamp for activities, recent visits, and user registration.
When using Sommerles, some information is automatically saved. Cookies are saved so that the website can recognise you, keep you logged into the website, and keep statistics on how the website is used. Cookies are stored by the following parties: Sommerles (to keep you logged in) and Cloudflare (Cloudflare is an intermediary between you and our servers), to make the servers safer and the website load faster). If you would like to delete cookies, you can read more about how to do it here.
Automatic information that is stored by Cloudflare includes IP address, browser information, device name, operating system, and navigation pattern.
What we do with the information we collect
We use the information we collect to create a great service and experience for you on Sommerles. To do so, administrators (librarians) check the content that users post on Sommerles for foul language and cheating. We compile statistics to show which books are popular to create customised reading suggestions. We also use statistics and questionnaires to find out what works well, and how we can further develop and improve Sommerles.
Administrators have the ability to correct personal information with your consent. Administrators can view aggregate statistics for the campaign, to evaluate how well marketing efforts have worked, and to evaluate the campaign.
All school grades have customised reading levels, making Sommerles accessible to all readers. At first, it is easy to go up a level on Sommerles, but it will get progressively more difficult. In this way, both strong readers and those with reading difficulties can have a good experience on Sommerles. Experience points(XP), digital trophies, and challenges on the website are customised for each school grade.
Book comments you write about books on Sommerles can be used anonymously in the library, or for the promotion of Sommerles.
All users will receive emails with practical information relating to the campaign and activities. These include emails to welcome you to Sommerles.no, to provide a new password, and to notify you of account changes, privacy guidelines, and an invitation to a celebration party for Sommerles. Your email will not be shared with other parties or used for any other purpose.
Your account will remain on Sommerles even after the campaign is over, so that you can continue with the same account in the following year. You will also have the opportunity to view books you have read in previous years.
Who we share information with
All personal information is processed in its entirety only by the administrators of Sommerles (employees of participating libraries and county libraries) and SNUTI AS (service provider of Sommerles).
Snuti AS uses subcontractors to operate Sommerles. All subcontractors have approved data processing agreements. and cannot use your information for anything other than the services they provide for Sommerles.
Sommerles has some social features (the "Friends" page) where your username, registered books, book comments, and trophies you have obtained will be visible to other users of Sommerles. This feature can be disabled by selecting "Hide my profile" button on the "Edit my profile" page.
Sommerles does not share your information with any other parties other than those mentioned above. Aggregated statistics for the campaign or for some libraries/counties as a whole may be used for various purposes.
Subprocessors
The following subcontractors are used in the operating of Sommerles.no.
- Microsoft Azure for virtual servers and backup solution.
- CloudFlare is a proxy and CDN (Content Delivery Network) provider that protects the servers of Sommerles.no.
- Twilio / Sendgrid for sending out all automatic emails from Sommerles.no.
- Gmail / G Suite for administrative and customer support emails.
What can you do with your personal information?
During the campaign period, you have the right to change and enter your own personal information at Sommerles, with the exception of your registred school grade, which is locked after the account is activated for this year's reading campaign. To change your school grade, contact us so that we can correct it for you.
You will have access to your profile until the end of October. The website will then be closed for the year after October. When this happens, you will no longer have access to your personal information. Data is archived and the servers are turned off until next year's reading campaign, which starts on the 1st of June of each year.
If you would like your account to be deleted, please email [email protected] from the same email address that is registered to your account, and let us know which account/username you want us to delete.
How long is personal data stored?
If your account has been inactive for more than 3 years, you will receive an email alert asking if you want to keep your account on Sommerles.no. If you do not log in to your account within one month of the email notification, or contact us, your account and all your personal information will be deleted.
Your rights
The rights to access your own information. You can request a copy of all information that we process about you. Please contact the email address above to exercise your right of access.
The rights to the correction of personal data. You have the right to ask us to correct or add information that is incorrect or misleading.
The rights to delete personal data. You have the right to have your personal information deleted without undue delay. You can therefore ask us to delete information about you at any time.
You have the right to have your personal information provided in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format. You can do this in My Account("Export Book data").
Restriction of processing of your personal data. In some situations, you may ask us to limit the processing of information about you. You can do this in the "My Account (Such as account information and profile view)
Protest again the processing of personal data. If we process information about you on the basis of our service, you have the right to protest our processing of information about you.
You have the right to complain about our processing of personal data. Contact us if you think we do not comply with the rules in the Personal Data Act.
Finally
If you have any questions about the information stored about you or feel that your personal information has not been processed in accordance with this agreement, we encourage you to contact us or to contact your local Sommerles library. In any case of breach of contract, you also have the right to appeal to the Datatilsynet.
